Cefalù: the Norman city

Cefalù: the Norman city

There is a story behind every area which is also within the area:
you feel it as you walk through its streets laid with cobbles centuries earlier, at the sight of a church towering above the town squares, among the people bustling along the narrow streets.

It is the story of an entire community, recounted by the art that adorns its every corner and the culture that every tradition whispers to anyone who is ready to listen.

Explore the area, immerse yourself in the art and history.

Visit Cefalù, one of Italy’s most beautiful towns, with its places steeped in history and the Norman Cathedral, today one of the island’s most prestigious artistic treasures.
Dating back to 1131, the superb Cathedral was built by Roger II following the vow he made after he was shipwrecked on the coast of Cefalù.
Marvel at the sight of the splendid mosaic depicting Christ Pantocreator, the two baptismal fonts, the Crucifix painted on both sides dating back to the 15th century, and the beautiful statue of the Virgin and Child sculpted by Antonio Gagini in the mid-16th century.
Continue the tour with a visit to the Mandralisca Museum housing the famous “Ritratto d’Ignoto” (Portrait of an Unknown Sailor), one of Antonello da Messina's masterpieces, and some pieces from the Mandralisca collection.
Plus, the characteristic “Lavatoio Medievale” (Medieval Washhouse). Finish with a tasting session in the Piazza Duomo.
