Markets and Nobility
Today's Palermo is the result of thirteen different dominations that, over the centuries, have created an incredible multicultural context. But how can we experience this? How can we perceive the history and flavors of the popular places that, as in the past, are still alive today with the inhabitants of the Sicilian capital?
A walk through the Capo and Ballarò markets, the oldest and most frequented, still allows you to bargain, buy, and savor just like in the past, in a surreal setting among the walls of historical monuments.
The Capo Market, located in the ancient Arab quarter of the Schiavoni, is famous for its vibrant colors, intoxicating scents, and the voices of merchants animating the stalls. Here, among fresh fish, spices, and street food, you can have an authentic and engaging experience.
Ballarò, the largest and oldest food market in Palermo, dates back to the 10th century and offers a variety of products from all over the world. It is the ideal place to savor Palermo's speciality, such as the famous "pani câ meusa" and arancine, immersed in a lively and multi-ethnic atmosphere.
Popular customs are as intense as noble origins, and this is why one of the most illustrious families will host us in their ancient residence, Villa Tasca d'Almerita. We will be welcomed by a long avenue immersed in greenery, where every detail tells a story of care and love. Villa Tasca, built in the 16th century and surrounded by a 8-hectares park, is an emblematic example of a Victorian romantic garden. Its rooms, decorated with pastoral frescoes and majolica, have hosted illustrious figures such as Verdi, Wagner, and Jacqueline Kennedy. We will be guided through the rooms where the family still lives today, and then we will taste their wines, which have dominated the territory for eight generations. This unique experience will allow us to fully immerse ourselves in the rich history and traditions of Palermo, savoring every moment and every flavor.
It will be an unforgettable journey through time, where the past and present harmoniously blend, giving us emotions and memories that we will carry with us forever.
