Palermo and Monreale

Palermo and Monreale

There is a story behind every area which is also within the area:
you feel it as you walk through its streets laid with cobbles centuries earlier, at the sight of a church towering above the town squares, among the people bustling along the narrow streets.

It is the story of an entire community, recounted by the art that adorns its every corner and the culture that every tradition whispers to anyone who is ready to listen.

Explore the area, immerse yourself in the art and history.

Discovery

Discover the city of Palermo, with its marvellous Arab-Norman cathedral, the Norman Palace, seat of the Sicilian Parliament, and the famous Palatine Chapel inside it, built in 1130.
Stroll along the ancient Corso Vittorio Emanuele and admire the superb façades of the palaces and churches built during the Baroque period.
Go to the Fontana Pretoria and visit the Church of St. Mary of the Admiral (“La Martorana”) and the Church of St Catherine of Alexandria, with its cloister, a splendid example of Baroque art.
Finish up with a small tasting session. In the afternoon, head for Monreale, the beautiful Arab-Norman town built around the Monreale Cathedral, a Unesco World Heritage Site. The cathedral church of Monreale is famous worldwide for its mosaics: an area of over 6,000 square metres and more than 130 Byzantine mosaics.
